Add the factory in-bumper hitch to your Jeep Renegade

We know the new Jeep Renegade. Renegade Ready created the Retrofit Trailer Hitch Kit so all Jeep Renegade owners could have the factory in-bumper 2" receiver hitch. It's the perfect height for trailering and bike racks and won't take away from departure angle or ground clearance.

Save $$ Hundreds! - our exclusive kit does not require purchase of an expensive and hard-to-get pre-cut bumper cover. It can be installed on any model Jeep Renegade with any size engine (read owners' manual towing guidelines if planning to tow). Even Jeep dealers buy our kit!

Our kit includes all the necessary Jeep factory parts and detailed instructions with photos guiding you step-by-step through the process of disassembling the bumper cover and bumper components, cutting the bezel-matching hole in your existing bumper cover, installing the factory hitch bumper and trim bezel, reassembly, and optionally wiring your Jeep Renegade for trailer lights.

Renegade Ready Retrofit Hitch Kit Includes

1) Bumper with 2” receiver hitch. Although bumper comes wired with 4” trailer connecter pigtail (standard 4 pin on one end and proprietary 8 pin Chrysler connector on the other end), there is no corresponding mating electrical connector present on your vehicle. A trailer light converter kit (Optional and sold separately for people that need trailer lighting) is required – please read detailed wiring description below.

2) Bezel Fascia. This is the decorative trim piece to frame the receiver and connector that is inserted into the plastic bumper cover—a precision hole must be cut for the bezel using the template provided.

3) 10qty specialty body panel retainer clips. Certain body panels must be removed but doing so requires the destruction of the existing panel retainer clips. These clips are provided to replace the clips you will break during install.

4) 6qty 14mm factory anchor bolts (needed for non-Trailhawk models and now included with all kits)

5) Cutting template. Adhesive template with cutting lines and alignment marks that is placed onto the bumper cover to show exact cutting location for the bezel mounting hole and slits for bezel snap-in anchor tabs.

6) Template position checker used to verify that template has been accurately located on the bumper cover prior to before making any cuts.

7) Detailed, 12-page printed instruction manual with full color photos of each step and time saving tips.

OPTIONAL ELECTRICAL WIRING CONVERTER BOX: $99.99 option - Select at checkout (Save $30! $129.99 value)

Plug and play installation with minimal wiring required. Includes 4ft. cable with trailer connector to hang out of tailgate or wiring may be spliced into the hitch-mounted trailer wire connector included on the factory hitch bumper.
Renegade Ready exclusive extras included with wiring kit: simplified wiring instructions with specialty fuse holder for easier installation, plus heat-shrink tubing, protective over wrap and wiring instructions for splicing into bumper connector.

Please select this option by clicking on the option "Enhanced Wiring Kit" above the add to cart button.

If you will never tow a trailer or need trailer lights, no additional wiring is required (though you should remove the connector included on the new bumper so that no-one will think it is wired for lights.)

Tools you will need:

Metric Sockets / Wrenches including 7mm, 10mm, 13mm (deep), 17mm, 18mm, 21mm, extensions

Torx Drivers / Tips : T30, T25

#2 Phillips Driver

Torque Wrench

Electrical tape (if wiring in)

12V Test light or volt meter (if installing wiring kit)

Soldering Iron (if splicing into bumper mounted connector)

Cutting Tools:
Manual cutting tools are the preferred method so there is less chance of an accident when you’ve only got one chance to get it right. Here are some that will work: manual drywall saw, Box cutter, wide tooth hacksaw blade

Specialty Tools:

Plastic trim removal set or a very stiff spatula

Suggested:

Vehicle Jack, chock and a jack stand or two

Air-powered tools for wheel and 14mm anchor bolt removal and installation.

Important: Do not exceed the factory recommended maximum towing weight of 2000lbs and maximum tongue weight of 200lbs. You should thoroughly read the Owners Manual section on towing before deciding on any hitch option.

Please note!

You will be receiving 2 separate shipments for this order. One shipment will include the hitch and the other shipment will include the installation manual with templates and hardware. If you also ordered the optional wiring kit it will come together with the installation manual and template kit together.

Both shipments should arrive within days of each other.

Fun install
Install took about half a day. There are numerous steps, but results look factory. Used only a box cutter for cutting the bumper and it worked fine. Each bolt and fastener that you remove is clearly photographed and documented. Great kit.

The kit is excellent, the instructions simple, straightforward and very easy to follow. The Mopar parts fit perfectly and the wiring kit was easy to install and works as advertised. Cutting the fascia took some time with only a box cutter, but came out perfectly. The only really difficult part to the whole job was remounting the wheels, the rennie uses free bolts instead of lugs to mount the wheels, what a pain in the rear, I guess the Europeans just have to be different. The kit is well worth the money. If you want a hitch, this is the way to go.

Renegade Ready did their homework and supplied a beautiful kit for my Trailhawk. I couldn't have done it without them (and wouldn't recommend anyone try). The installation is not easy, but Renegade Ready made it as easy as it could be. I used their wiring kit too. Very happy!

The hitch kit is worth every penny! I set aside the entire day knowing I would take my time and a lot of breaks. Got all the tools together and went for it. Can't say enough about how good the instructions are. I used a small drywall saw to cut bezel and it worked perfect. If you are extremely careful, you can get the fender molding moved out of the way without breaking more than a clip or 2 (they give you 10 extra). Great customer service as well. Huge thumbs up!

Awesome Kit
Bought the hitch and wiring kit from Renegade Ready. I couldn't be more pleased with the service, kit, instructions and results. It does take some time and thought to take the Renegade apart (nylon trim removal set is a must have), but the results are fantastic! The wiring kit and instructions are great (I would never use the factory kit for this, nor should Jeep). The fit and finish are great, you would never know it didn't come with the factory tow package. Brian and the crew at Renegade Ready are the best, wish I could post pics on here.

Renegade Ready hitch
I installed my Renegade ready hitch today. I am not doing a write up here. For the most part the directions are pretty good. First the good. The hitch does fit very well and the template is spot on. If you follow the instructions, it is straight forward. I am very happy with the results. Here's the bad. It took 8 hours. Would have been 7 but I ran into a problem with the wiring. I had everything connected, no power to the 4 pin connector. I call RR, left a message, and here I sit 4 hrs later. No call back. So they get a bad rating for customer service. After trouble shooting several times, I found a bad connector at the power wire. This connecter was already installed in the kit. So I ended up cutting it off and used my own connector. The instructions mention T30 torx, which is wrong, it's a T25 torx. The rear interior panels for my 2016 are different than listed, no big deal. For trailhawks a 19mm socket is needed to remove the rear tow hook, not 18mm per the instructions. Some things I did (tips). Used a pen cap to remove the blue clips (step 4b). I cut the bezel with a dremal. I used a hair dryer to make the plastic more pliable when setting the clips on the bezel.

Trailer Hitch
Directions were extremely helpful and end result was almost perfect. But was extremely disappointed that the extra wire harness I bought with the hitch, though plugged into all vehicle connections, did not plug into the prewired harness on the new hitch itself. You must cut the ends off both the lighting harness and the hitch harness and solder the connections. RR should come up with an adapter to avoid this especially after spending over $450 for the equipment. I think this connection is a potential problem down the road despite the extensive care I took to tape and waterproof the soldered connection. Otherwise everything went just as it was explained in the directions. It is an 8 hour project the first time, though I could do it in less than 4 now that i know how to do it. 4 stars only because of the wiring connector issue.

Very, very pleased
I was torn between the under bumper setup or this one. I wanted the easy install, but did not want to sacrifice the ground clearance (the under bumper receiver leaves you with about 8 inches of ground clearance). I checked with the local Jeep dealer. They wanted $2500 soup to nuts, and $1200 just for labor if I brought in the kit! That was all the incentive I needed to DIY. So I pulled the trigger and knocked off this install in about 6 hrs. That was in the driveway, by myself, moving slow and easy, and not a single skinned knuckle. The install instructions were perfectly clear. In fact, possibly the best instruction guide I have ever see. Zero problems.

Installed the hitch in about 6 hours start to finish. Fantastic documentation. Hitch looks great and is high quality, rock solid. Thanks to previous reviewers for their installation insights. 3/4 hr was spent on removing and installing the wheels including getting the torque correct since I did not know whether I had steel or aluminum wheels. My nephew, a Boeing Aircraft mechanic, provided the bulk of the work. Wiring harness installation was our only issue. First, the suggested location in our fuse box had no metal pin. Only one other slot had a metal pin and the orientation was reversed from what we expected. So make doubly sure you are installing the fuse tap correctly. Second, the rubber boot had no nipple so we had to drill a hole big enough to feed the convoluted tubing containing the wires through. We then sealed the hole with silicon adhesive.

Wow, perfect instructions, they put together all the mopar parts you need, hitch, insert, push pops, template & most important, instructions. It all worked as planned. Renegade ready just needs to add another sub kit, for none trailhawk models, add the mopar hook, insert & clip, for that full trailhawk look and capabilities.

OK, everyone that looks at the online instructions for this, don't panic. Take your time and relax. It's actually very simple. I took mine to a dealer because it looked too far beyond my level. They quoted me between $500-$800 just for the install....WOW. ...that's when I decided I was going to make a go of it. Just follow the instructions STEP BY STEP. ...DON'T veer from the instructions and it's easy. ....from start to finish it took me 4 hours. ....A LOT BETTER than $500-$800!!!!! And it fits PERFECTLY

Great kit
After the dealer quoted me 1300.00 for parts plus the install price l told them I would do some research. I'm glad I did. Didn't really like the under bumper style and when I found this kit I stopped looking. It was delivered within 3 days and it took me most of the day to install, but was easy with the included instructions. Any DIYer can do it. I'm 60 and did it myself. Looks great, tows great and you can't beat the price. In a week my new Jeep was tow ready. The floor mats I bought were also a perfect fit and great dirt catchers. Easy to keep my Renny clean. Jim H.

AWESOME Kit !!
So, I got my kit and after looking at it for several days I decided to install it. The actual disassembly of the car went pretty well, I discovered that the five blue clips it mentions (3 lower pushed out with a sharp tool, and 2 upper that it says to break off, replacements in the kit) can be easily pushed using a deep 7mm socket to squees the winglike tabs, then the clips just pop out. I only undid the three lower blue clips, I didn't have to mess with the two uppers. And I also removed the 4 green clips as instructed, this gave me just enough room to remove the two 7mm screws with a tiny wrench. The actual removal of the inner steel bumper and installation of the new one with the hitch only took minutes. Total time spent was about 4 hours, the majority of the time was spent on cutting out the hole in the bumper cover and installing the bezel (what a PITA). The rubber hitch cover that comes with it is held on with a strap that goes over the receiver opening doesn't work as is. The receiver opening is too close to the top of the bezel and the strap interferes with the plug insertion. I just cut off the strap, the plug is a tight fit into the opening so it fits nice and tight, there's no need for the strap. Overall the kit fits and looks great. I recommend it over an under bumper hitch hands down.

Easy Install but not quick
I installed this and the wiring kit yesterday and I give huge props to the RR guys. Everything fit great and the instructions couldn't be more clear. It took just shy of six hours with a lunch break from start to finish working by myself. I did need my wife to hold the wire connection on the first solder joint. Just take your time and have the right tools. I didn't break any of the blue clips. Thank you Renegade Ready, the hitch looks like it came right from the factory.

I agree with pretty much everyone that this is a superior kit! The value, of course, is in the inclusion of excellent instructions - and all the parts you need. Take your time and follow their notes and you'll have a factory-perfect (okay, better than factory) install. My one tip is: when inserting the prongs on the bezel, use a tool to push down both sides of the bumper-cover plastic - I used long-nosed pliers - at once, around the prong, from the back. The prongs will pop right into place.

Kinda tough, still worth the money.
Took me 6 hours start to finish. The cut out in the bumper didn't fit nearly as well as I would have liked. I had to really work on it to get it to fit in well enough to engage all the clips. Everything else was easy, just a little time consuming. I would also say that a jigsaw works just fine if you take it at a snails pace. Just don't get in a hurry! Oh, and don't forget the trim tools. They were a must.

Very well made kit and the easiest directions I've ever seen. The only problem I had was wondering what the extra wire was for in the wiring kit. Called customer support and within a couple of minutes found out it was not needed in the way I was installing it. It took me about 8 hours from start to finish but I took my time taking the trim and facia off. I did 2 things differently than the directions. I removed the wheel trim completely. I had trim tape to replace what I tore while removing. I also used an ocillating saw to cut out the hole. It was a lot faster but I wouldn't recommend it if you're not good with using one. It would be real easy to mess up. I would highly recommend this kit. Basic skills and you can do this.

jeep trailer hitch kit and wiring harness
Great kit easy to install. Everything you need to have it look like it came from the factory with the hitch. The wiring kit is a must. Only have to crimp one wire and loosen a nut for the ground wire. The rest just plugs in to existing wiring harness. I would recommend this to all jeep owners who want to have a hitch and do it yourself.
********Comment from Renegade Ready******* We're glad it went well for you! Just to be clear for potential customers regarding the wiring: if you would like to use the existing bracket mounted 4-flat connector on the bumper just left of the 2" square receiver tube for a permanent and professional style install, you will need to cut and splice (soldering recommended and waterproof heat-shrink tubing is included for this) 4 wires.

Renegade Retrofit Kit
It seems repetitive at this point with all the other 5 star reviews, but this product deserves every one. With nothing but casual automotive work history (changing oil, brakes, plugs) I was able to start to finish this project in just under 7 hours (would be much quicker a second time around). I worked on it on Memorial day with my dad and we ran into a question, didn't think that we would be able to get any help on the holiday, but called the number listed on the manuals and sure enough Brian answered and was able to help us out. I can not give high enough praise for the quality of the product, instructions, and customer service. If you want a hitch on your Renny, please forget any $1000+ dealers, buy this kit and do it yourself. You'll save a ton of money and it looks factory. THANKS RENEGADE READY!!!

This is a FANTASTIC kit! Don't be intimidated to tackle it yourself! As a 24 year old male with no other automobile experience besides changing my oil, I was able to install this kit over the weekend with steady breaks thanks to the fantastic, clear and concise instructions and pictures included! The install could be completed without removing the wheels if you had special screwdrivers, but it's much easier to do if you remove your tires as instructed(check your trunk for the tire iron and be sure to get a torque wrench for reinstalling-harbor freight is great!...also a great cheap place to find the plastic trim removal tools you'll need.) Quick Tip: when trying to remove the blue retaining clips, use the 7mm socket! It fits perfectly over the nub, and was much easier to use to push out the clips than using a pen tip as recommended. (You'll already have this handy from the step before) The enhanced wiring kit is also top notch, including Renegade Ready's detailed pictures/instructions. It was simple and CLEAN to install. The results are factory! I couldn't be more impressed, and there's no way to tell it didn't come preinstalled with the Jeep( all Mopar parts and bolts!) The only cause of suffering is getting that &@$! Bezel to snap in place! The template is awesome and works perfectly, but it's damn near impossible to snap the bezel in place without saying 100 cuss words and exerting yourself to exhaustion! Trimming of the slots helps and eventually by a miricale the bezel snaps into place. I made a slightly larger trim than I needed because it was so hard to get in place( which is a good thing because it makes a clean factory finish) and because of this there is a slight noticeable gap in one of the connecting tabs. But honestly if you showed someone they probably wouldn't think it was more than a scuff mark. Point being, there's a little leeway if you make a mistake, and if you take your time and trim as necessary it will still turn out beautifully. Thank you so much RR for the great kit ! I intended to do a YouTube review/install, but RR asks for their copyright protection and I didn't want to publish the instructions they worked so hard to provide in this kit ! Now hopefully soon someone finds a way to use the extra bumper I have laying around to make a winch mount up front... Hmmm

I'm a car guy and it still took me by myself 4 hours. Not a hard job if you around cars a decent amount. Wrenching i mean. Will say, so glad I bought the advanced wiring kit also. Saved me from running wires and cables to the battery upfront. Alot easier with the wiring kit. Overall... Was a GREAT buy. Thanks for an amazing piece of equipment! Save ride height and looks stock. I ordered the retrofit kit and wiring for my 2015 Trailhawk. Directions are excellent .follow closely. Take your time. A friend and I with good tools including impact wrench took 5HRs. A few notes Use the 7 mm socket trick for the blue clips You only need to pull the body molding out enough to get to the 7 mm hex screw with a small wrench Use the bolts that came with the kit to attach the new bumper as they are galvanized unlike the originals When you first put the new bumper up to the frame reattach the 2 13mm outer screws as these will draw the bumper in tight and the other holes line up Think about wiring ahead and review wiring before starting. I found that my 2015 built in april did not have a harness exiting the left .There was only a rubber cover over a panel opening. If you are going to hardwire to the new bumper harness you should run the 4 wire flat tail through a slit in that rubber cover and silicone it now because once the fascia goes back you cannot easily get to it. We got impatient with the cutting after very carefully aligning the template and went to a dremel with a drywall bit. Finished cutting in 10 minutes. After a little trimming bezel popped right in using a goodly amount of front and back force The finished look is terrific.

I purchased the hitch and writing kit together. With the help of a friend, two computer nerds were able to pretend we knew what we were doing and get this installed perfectly. There were a few moments that I was unsure of how much pressure to be using when removing trim, or putting the bezel into the cutout.... But I was on the cautious side, so continually adding pressure did the work. Overall a great kit and a fun experience. I'd do it again, in half the time, any day.

Works just as stated
The team at Renegade Ready really made this KIT worth its weight in gold. Yes, you could probably source the material individually and try to perform everything blind, but the color directions with pictures and the template really keep you from messing up horribly bad. The only piece of advise I would give to the Renegade ready team would be for the assembly back together. You can figure this part out, but the process took me about 7 hrs (start to finish with breaks) so I almost forgot how to put everything back together. We use the hitch for a cargo carrier and to haul a lawnmower. It works perfect and the TrailHawk runs fine with the extra weight. Everything was just as stated and worked out great with a little elbow grease.

Excellent product. Instructions are clear and precise. Cutting opening in the brand new fascia is slightly unnerving, but using a drywall saw is the way to go. Total time was 5 hrs.Wiring was a no-brainer. Excellent fit and finish.

Mr.
I have to say the most impressive thing about this kit was to incredible full color step by step instruction. Turns out beautifully. I love my Renegade and look forward to more possible accessories.

Great kit! Detailed instructions and template made for a very easy process. It took 3.5 hours in a shop with a professional doing it for the first time. Cutting the template took close to an hour of that and second hardest part was getting the wheels back on but that's no fault to this kit. Just be careful with the clips as you only get 10 extras and if you break all 14 of the blue ones or any of the green ones you may be out of luck and have to rig something up. If you take the panels of as instructed you will probably be OK, but if you just rip them off you may just need to get lucky.
